Here in India, the world seems to have reunited again.

Transitioning into 2026, I found myself hiking to the Ganesh temple with a designer from South Africa, a father and son from Israel now living in Thailand, natives of Darjeeling (located in the Himalayan foothills, between Nepal and Bhutan) and many others. I shared meals with a Ukrainian living in Toronto, a Polish living in Spain, a Swiss living in Australia, an American living in India. 

Somehow the conversations always revolved about finding your center back, the meaning of it all, the strength to keep going, despite the wars and PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorders), the outcomes of drugs and addictions, losses and gains.

I always feel humbled by people willing to let go of their walls, open themselves to their vulnerabilities and hopes for a better world.

I saw ourselves held by the multiple arms of Ma Durga, the supreme Mother Goddess (the one riding the lion and battling demons to restore cosmic order!). Durga embodies divine feminine power, strength, protection.

I became friend with a German woman and her Chilean husband. Wondering why India had become such a haven of peace for us and many people, “the cleanliness” she said without hesitation! 

Such an interesting answer, especially in light of the fact that most countries and people abroad consider India as the dirtiest place in the world and even dislike it for that very reason. 

Look she said, in Germany, every corner and pieces of our world are so clean and tidy, organized and perfect, yet people inner word is one of the messiest you can imagine. 

Here in India, the streets may look a bit dirtier (even if India has made enormous progress for the past 10 years I have been coming there) yet people inner cleanliness ranks amongst the first in the world.

Yes, despite the poverty and sometimes extremely harsh living conditions, people here are content and resilient, they show courage and compassion, they surrender and move on.

The Law of Karma, the Golden Rule prevail*.

The family support is like nowhere else in the world. It’s another kind of well-being, one that carries you forward, no matter what.
